Minnesota State Standards for Arts Education: Kindergarten

Currently Perma-Bound only has suggested titles for grades K-8 in the Science and Social Studies areas. We are working on expanding this.

MN.3501.0620.1. The student will understand and use artistic processes to create, perform, and interpret art works in at least two of the three arts areas required to be offered by a school from the following: dance, music, theater, and visual arts.

1.A.1. Dance: The student will understand the elements of dance, including action, space, time, and energy.

1.A.2. Dance: The student will understand the characteristics of dance from a variety of cultures and historical times.

1.A.3. Dance: The student will use basic movement skills in musical or rhythmic contexts.

1.A.4. Dance: The student will create and perform sequences of movement with a beginning, middle, and end to communicate a story, life experience, theme, or idea.

1.B.1. Music: The student will understand the elements of music, including melody, rhythm, harmony, dynamics, tone color, texture, and form.

1.B.2. Music: The student will understand the characteristics of music from a variety of cultures and historical times.

1.B.3. Music: The student will sing a varied repertoire of songs in a group.

1.B.4. Music: The student will improvise and compose on classroom instruments to communicate an idea.

1.B.5. Music: The student will play simple rhythms and melodies on classroom instruments.

1.B.6. Music: The student will read and write music using a system of notation.

1.C.1. Theater: The student will understand the elements of theater, including plot, theme, character, language, sound, and spectacle.

1.C.2. Theater: The student will understand the characteristics of theater from a variety of cultures and historical times.

1.C.3. Theater: The student will use movement, sound, and language to create images and express ideas.

1.C.4. Theater: The student will create characterizations of animals, objects, or shapes.

1.C.5. Theater: The student will communicate a story and character using voice, movement, costume, and props.

1.D.1. Visual Arts: The student will understand the elements of visual art, including color, line, shape, form, texture, and space.

1.D.2. Visual Arts: The student will understand the characteristics of visual art from a variety of cultures and historical times.

1.D.3. Visual Arts: The student will use the tools, basic skills, and techniques of at least three different mediums.

1.D.4. Visual Arts: The student will create original works of art to communicate ideas.
