ALA Booklist
Second-grader and novice witch Heidi Heckelbeck is excited when she is chosen to take Principal Pennypacker's pet rabbit, Maggie, home for Easter weekend. Though Maggie is not allowed outside her cage without adult supervision, Heidi can't resist sneaking Maggie out to see her colorful Easter eggs d Maggie jumps loose and into the dyes. Although Heidi attempts cleaning no-longer-white Maggie with a bath and some magic, neither works, which means getting help and telling her mom. Though light on substance, this entertaining fare's larger-size print, simple illustrations, and short chapters make for an accessible read that Heidi series followers likely will enjoy.
Horn Book
The school's once-white bunny ends up tie-dyed under young witch Heidi's watch and magic only makes matters worse (Bunny); Heidi hopes a spell will cure her sickness before the Fall Festival (Sniffles); and she tries to save Aunt Sophie's wedding when a big problem pops up (Flower). Series fans will appreciate the humorous stories' reliable hijinks, (too) tidy outcomes, and charming black-and-white illustrations.
