Snail's garden residence, a rusty bucket full of strawberries, suddenly seems less appealing after he eats too much of the scrumptious fruit and throws up d so, at the urging of his friend Ladybug, he's off to check out some new digs. Unfortunately, the house hunting doesn't go too well: the honeysuckle bush is too high, Gopher's hole too crowded, and the garbage can too buggy. More ominously, Snail crawls too close to the chicken coop and picks up a feathered stalker. Peterson gives the simply drawn creatures of her cast a comical range of expressions. Also, rather than separate the narrative and visual elements, she artfully integrates them all on the page so that the tale rolls along like a graphic or animated cartoon. A good appetizer for chapter-book reading.
