“My parents lived in Europe and the Caribbean for the year that I was four, and since I was away from other children and didn’t have much to do, my mother taught me to read. I immersed myself in books from that time on and gloried in being precociously literary.”
Dashka graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in conservation and resource studies. She worked for a solar energy company and then a computer book publisher. Also during this time, her poetry was being published in literary magazines and she was working as a reporter for local newspapers. She became a full-time journalist in 1991, and began publishing novels in 2000.
Dashka grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has spent most of her adult life in Oakland, California.
