RI.1. Dance: Creation/Performance: All students will engage in self or group expression by creating original or interpreting works of art.

1.1. Apply knowledge of concepts and structures to create original and interpretive works of art

1.1.1. Create movement compositions using principles of contrast and transition; demonstrate structures and forms (for example, AB, ABA, CANON, CALL, and RESPONSE and NARRATIVE).

1.2. Apply knowledge of media, tools, techniques and processes to create original and interpretive works of art

1.2.1. Generate movement and choreography employing movement vocabulary for clear expression; solve choreographic problems through research; demonstrate/ explain the role of lighting and costuming contributions to the meaning of a dance.

1.3. Perform or exhibit a varied repertoire of artistic works in a variety of settings

1.3.1. Perform dances based on own ideas and those from other sources; reproduce and perform a set piece of choreography.

RI.2. Dance: Perception - All students will observe and experience objects and ideas through a multitude of senses and form a sophisticated, informed response.

2.1. Experience a variety of artistic presentations in a variety of settings

2.1.1. Participate and respond appropriately to a variety of performances by professionals and peers both in and out of school setting; demonstrate appropriate audience behavior.

RI.4. Dance: Tools - All students will develop the ability to communicate in the language of art forms through the study and use of appropriate vocabulary, materials, tools and techniques.

4.1. Demonstrate facility in the identification and use of a variety of vocabulary, materials, tools and techniques.

4.1.1. Identify personal goals to improve as a dancer. Practice strategies to prevent dance injuries. Create original warm -ups and discuss how warm -ups prepare the body and mind for dance. Demonstrate proper dance class procedure and etiquette; use computers to support production needs.

4.2. Demonstrate the selection of tools appropriate to purpose, message and audience

4.2.1. Demonstrate basic movement skills in a movement phase; demonstrate movement elements and principles in movement phases; use movement skills appropriate to the composition projects assigned.

5.1.1. Demonstrate an understanding of the similarities and differences among the arts and other disciplines and that the arts are inherent to all content areas.

1.2.1. Improvise/compose simple melodic and rhythmic patterns and harmonic accompaniments of single and multiple lines and pieces for specific characteristics of instruments, vocal sounds and other sound sources, incorporating electronic recording technologies.

1.3. Perform or exhibit a varied repertoire of artistic works in a variety of settings.

1.3.1. Continue to demonstrate recognition of the elements of music, at an appropriate level of difficulty and expression, by performing established and non -traditional pieces of music.

RI.2. Music: Perception - All students will observe and experience objects and ideas through a multitude of senses and form a sophisticated, informed response.

2.1. Experience a variety of artistic presentations in a variety of settings

2.1.1. Participate and respond appropriately to rehearsals and performances of varied musical content and at an increasingly advanced level; demonstrate appropriate audience behavior.

2.2. Establish and explain their own criteria for analysis and appreciation using reflection and evaluation; use and explain various criteria used to analyze and appreciate works of art

2.2.1. Identify criteria based on the elements of music used to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of musical performances and compositions; use these criteria to articulate personal preferences in music.

2.3. Accept and utilize constructive criticism for application to future work.

2.3.1. Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of performance, compositions, arrangements and improvisations, and offer constructive suggestions for improvement, make appropriate modifications.

3.2.1. Identify and articulate the ways in which music influences a students' own culture and society, drawing from personal experiences, and articulate the ways their own culture and society influence music in contemporary American culture.

3.3.1. Identify ways in which musical works speak to personal feelings; improvise, compose and listen to programmatic music, and discuss ways that underlying dramatic theme and personal feelings are expressed; perceive and articulate, in texted music, the relationship between the music and its text.

4.2.1. Design musical experiences: instrumental, vocal, compositional, and improvisational, using music technology and electronic instruments, to demonstrate appropriate choices that effectively communicate musical ideas to the listener.

3.3.1 Analyze the commonalities of character, situation, and themes in various cultures and historical periods and personally apply these ideas in the creation of dramatic presentations (e.g., explore how prejudice is expressed in works of theatre and one's own life).

4.1.1. Demonstrate the functions and interrelated nature of scenery, properties, lighting, sound, costumes and makeup in creating an environment appropriate for the drama; analyze the improvised and scripted scenes for artistic and technical requirements; develop focused ideas for the environment using visual elements and principles and aural qualities from traditional and non -traditional sources.

4.2. Demonstrate the selection of tools appropriate to purpose, message and audience.

4.2.1. Work collaboratively and safely to select and create elements of scenery, properties, lighting, and sound to signify environments, and costumes and makeup to suggest character appropriate to the venue and the audience.
