Mississippi State Standards for Arts Education: Grade 2

Currently Perma-Bound only has suggested titles for grades K-8 in the Science and Social Studies areas. We are working on expanding this.

MS.1. Visual Arts: Creating/Performing (CP): Students will communicate ideas and feelings by creating and performing works of art through the visual arts.

1.1. Students will know fundamental skills in using a variety of media, techniques, and processes to produce and study works of art

1.2. Students will know how to apply the elements and principles of design through media, techniques, and processes to communicate ideas, actions, and emotions

1.3. Students will know that use of various media, techniques, and processes results in different effects in works of art

1.4. Students will identify basic productions elements of dance

MS.2. Visual Arts: Critical Analysis (CA): Students will respond to, describe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate the complex characteristics of the visual arts.

2.1. Students will develop perceptual skills and use visual arts vocabulary while creating and studying works of art

2.2. Students will recognize critical processes (response, description, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation) used for the examination of works of art and design through reading, writing, and speaking

2.3. Students will recognize, identify, and read music notation and symbols

MS.3. Visual Arts: History/Culture (HC): Students will understand the roles and functions of artists and visual arts in cultures, times, and places.

3.1. Students will recognize roles, functions, and purposes of artists, works of art and visual arts careers in cultures, times, and places

3.2. Students will recognize subject matter, symbols, and forms in works of art and design across cultures, times, and places

MS.4. Visual Arts: Aesthetics (A): Students will perceive, understand, and appreciate the diverse meanings and value of the visual arts.

4.1. Students will know that there are different answers to the question, 'What is art?'

4.2. Students will know that people respect, value, and derive meaning from art differently

4.3. Students will identify and appreciate from a personal perspective the great dance works, innovators and performers

4.4. Students will practice patronage of dance and the arts

MS.5. Visual Arts: Connections (C): Students will make valid connections among the arts, others subject areas, and everyday life.

5.1. Students will recognize that visual arts concepts and skills are integrated with knowledge in other subject areas for use in everyday life

5.2. Students will recognize ways that major concepts, technologies, media, and processes of the visual arts relate to those in other subject areas - within and outside the arts

5.3. Students will identify dance careers

1.1. Students will sing and/or play a variety of music selections alone and in groups

1.2. Students will create and perform music using simple melodic and rhythmic patterns

2.1. Students will listen to, describe, and respond to short works of music

2.2. Students will describe qualities of successful music performances and identify elements and expressive qualities of music

MS.3. Music: History/Culture (HC): Students should understand the roles and functions of music and musicians in cultures, times, traditions, and places.

4.1. Students will interpret a variety of moods and feelings expressed by different music selections

1.1. Students will demonstrate ability to understand improvisations based on personal experience, heritage, imagination, literature, and history

1.2. Students will act by assuming roles and interacting in improvisations

1.3. Students will design by visualizing and arranging environments for classroom dramatizations

1.4. Students will direct by planning classroom dramatizations
