Miranda earned a B.A. in English, a B.A. in Language and Literature, and a Secondary Education Teaching Certificate from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. While attending SMCM, she worked as editor-in-chief of the college’s weekly newspaper; studied under children’s author and poet Lucille Clifton; received the Creative Writing Award her senior year; and was chosen to present for the Women in Poetry Symposium.
Miranda has written more than a dozen best-selling fiction and nonfiction books for children, including the award-winning One Plastic Bag and I Am Farmer. She teaches at The Highlights Foundation, and is a presenter and speaker at libraries, schools, conferences for educators, workshops, and literary festivals.
Miranda is a founding member of We Need Diverse Books™ and serves as mentorship chair, overseeing the program that matches upcoming or aspiring writers with published authors. Miranda’s favorite line from a book is, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” —Aesop, “The Lion and the Mouse”
