One of the most prominent figures in children's literature, Newbery Medalist and New York Times bestseller Linda Sue Park was born in Urbana, Illinois, and grew up outside Chicago.

Linda Sue is the author of historical and contemporary fiction, poetry, and picture book texts for young readers. She competed on the gymnastics team and graduated with a degree in English from Stanford University, then attained a master’s degree at Birkbeck College in London; she has worked as an advertising copywriter, a journalist, and a teacher of English as a second language.

As a personal journey and because of her children, Linda Sue was motivated to explore her Korean roots. Her academic research and interviews with her immigrant parents and other family members have resulted in many beloved, award-winning historical fiction books.

Linda Sue serves on the advisory board for several organizations, including the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrator (SCBWI) and We Need Diverse Books™ (WNDB). WNDB is a non-profit organization supporting literature that reflects and honors the lives of all young people.

“We’re not just trying to change children’s books. We’re trying to change the world—which is incredibly hard work. But it always begins the same way: By looking at our own stuff, and changing the choices we make every day,” Linda Sue says. She continues, “It can be overwhelming, so here’s a place to start: our bookshelves.”

She lives in Rochester, New York, with her handsome Irishman husband. They have two grown children.
