Carla Morris is a children’s author; Provo City, Utah, librarian of 33 years; past Chair of ALA’s Theodore Geisel Committee; and former Caldecott Committee member. Carla received a B.A. and Master’s in Library Science from Brigham Young University. She has a special interest in Emergent Literacy and teaching parents how to prepare their children to learn to read.

The Boy Who Was Raised by Librarians, which is based on a true story and is dedicated to children’s librarians, received the 2008 Comstock Read Aloud Book Award. Carla’s magical library captures the bonds between children and their library, and among librarians themselves.

Carla shares her love of books by getting the right book into the hand of library patrons at the right time of their lives, and introducing them to the many book lists and materials available—helping them enjoy the big shelves of physical, real, tangible books. She notes, “I can get through anything if I know there is a good book waiting for me at the end of the day.”

“Many times the public library is referred to as the living room of the community. I frequently tell library staff as well as our patrons, ‘I hope you will always feel comfortable at our library, and you are always welcome home here.’”

She currently resides in East Springville, Utah.
