Tenderness - Expressing warm affection, gentle emotions, and a loving feeling of concern for the welfare of someone.

Jewel’s birthday is on May 23rd.

Jewel grew up in a saddle barn with no running water or electricity on six hundred undeveloped acres in Alaska. It was the same land her grandparents had homesteaded after they emigrated from Europe before World War II.

Her dad trained her to sing, and she practiced for hours every day. He had learned singing and playing instruments from Jewel’s grandmother. Jewel performed with her dad all over Alaska. At fifteen she moved into a cabin on her own with the same primitive conditions. She had to ride her horse twelve miles into town for work. With the financial help of her Alaskan hometown community, Jewel majored in classical voice and art and minored in dance and drama at a fine arts high school in Michigan. During school breaks when she was too poor to return home, she traveled, playing music to make money for train and bus tickets and in exchange for food. She tuned into what she saw around her and wrote lyrics that became the song, “Who Will Save Your Soul”. This is just one of her deeply introspective songs that are a spectacular success. Her life experiences, hard work, heartfelt songwriting, extraordinary voice and engaging stage presence has earned her world-wide acclaim and numerous major awards.

Jewel founded and continues to support Project Clean Water. This charitable initiative brings safe water to those in need and creates awareness of clean water shortages around the world.

Jewel lives on a working ranch in Stephenville, Texas, with her husband, World Champion bull-riding superstar, Ty Murray, and their son, Kase Townes Murray.
