Horn Book
Bluebonnet the armadillo falls down a hole and meets Clyndon P. Glyptodon, her prehistoric ancestor. Excessively wordy, with unattractive illustrations and very little plot.

With curiosity as her guide, Bluebonnet, the most traveled armadillo in Texas, leaves her home in the Hill Country for a visit to Dinosaur Valley State Park. Her field trip takes an unexpected twist when she has a surprise encounter with a yawning glyptodont named Spike. Bluebonnet begins a friendship with this armadillo ancestor, and the two spend the day exploring the state park in search of new adventures. But little do they realize that Spike is making fresh dinosaur tracks. Bluebonnet's quick thinking keeps visitors from finding out that there's an unusual creature in the park. With colorful illustrations and a popular little hero, author Mary Brooke Casad teaches children about armadillo habits mixed with a dash of Texas history.
