Now more than ever it's important that students learn about money at an early age. What is money? Where does it come from? How do we use it? And that's just the beginning!
Nearly all states have content standards in economics beginning with kindergarten. "Teachers can introduce primary-grade students to a wide range of economic concepts in state standards by using reading strategies that embrace children's literature with economic content. Doing so allows teachers to teach their students reading strategies and economics simultaneously," notes a study that was released through the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences ("Teaching Economics Through Children's Literature in the Primary Grades," by Yana Rodgers, Shelby Hawthorne, and Ronald Wheeler, September 2007).
There are numerous outstanding books available to teach money basics from kindergarten through high school.
